Rain Man
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008Rain, man.
8:22 AM: I just walked about 4 blocks in North Philly and was nearly blown into traffic. The rain is still pouring down and they’re forecasting wind chills in the low 20s tonight. Gloomy would be an understatement.
Mike Radano of the Courier Post summed it up nicely in his blog:
PHILADELPHIA - Proof [...]
Steve Irwin, Your Thoughts on Game 1?
Thursday, October 23rd, 2008-
“Go Phillies! Beat the Rays!”
Apologies. I took 5 full pages of notes last night, and was planning to do a big report today. Because the Phillies being in the World Series is like a passing comet, I wanted to create some kind of historical record that would crystalize my thoughts and feelings, [...]

“Congratulations, Player X! You’ve just won Big Event Y! Tell the viewers out there: how does it feel?”
“Ummm,” [shaking head],”Phew. I can’t even describe it right now. Man. Wow. It’s indescribable. It’s like–I don’t know. It’s great. I’m speechless.”

Just once I want [...]
Cole-Town Philly, Back Again
Friday, October 10th, 2008For the second time in as many starts, Cole Hamels came up huge when it mattered most. After his 8-strikeout performance, a shot in the arm from Chase Utley (who just magically came out of his coma like Robert Deniro in Awakenings), another better-late-than-never blast from Pat Burrell (who, correct me if I’m wrong, is [...]
Announcement: Anyone Who Shops at W.B. Mason Will Be Killed. By Me.
Thursday, September 18th, 2008Those of you who follow PhillyJock.com regularly or semi-regularly know that, for all our shortcomings (there are many), one of the things we try to avoid here is what I’ll call contrived indignation. Those who surf the web or consume mass media (i.e. exist in the 21st century) will understand what I mean: those [...]
“Baseball Heaven” is for Sinners [Funny Sign in Busch Stadium]
Monday, August 4th, 2008Congrats to the Phils on their 5-1 road trip, including last night’s 5-4 comeback over the Cards. I’ll not rehash the game, as there are other outlets for that, nor will I ever refer to St. Louis “Baseball Heaven” again (kill me), but I did notice something amusing in the late innings. You [...]
If This Picture Could Speak, I Suspect it Would Say: Suck it, Mets Fans
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008Picture of the Day
front page, New York Times
So they say a picture says a thousand words, but this one isn’t in the mood for speaking; in fact, if you listen closely, it’s weeping. But if it did speak…what would it say?
What Mets Fans Are Saying
So the picture isn’t talking, but Mets sure fans are. [...]
Phils Acquire Joe Blanton
Friday, July 18th, 2008Trivia (yes, I did research): Joe Blanton was selected 24th overall by the A’s in the 2002 MLB draft. He’s one of only two UK pitchers currently in the majors - the other was taken two years prior at 249 overall. Who is he?
So no doubt you’ve heard by now that the [...]
