Oh thank god, it’s football season.

Hooray football!
The light at the end of the tunnel of 182 games of penurious baseball is rapidly approaching. It’s been a good phils season thus far (minus the antics of adam eaton and brett myers.) but the real meat and potatoes of the sports cycle is set to begin.
The NFL has been in camp for the better part of two weeks and a few certainties have emerged.
1) Brett Favre is, was, and forever will be an asshole.
Now you may all gasp at this, but hopefully you will realize what very few (myself included) have realized long ago. Brett Favre sucks. Ok so he will be a hall of famer because he threw a million touchdowns, but he is a hemorrhoid on the asshole of America. He was a whiny bitch in atlanta, a whiny selfish bitch in green bay, and he will be a whiny, selfish, and hopefully ineffective bitch in tampa/new york. I swear if I hear someone justify another interception thrown by that prick as “brett’s a gunslinger” I’m gonna piss.
2)Wide Receivers are just plain nuts.
T.O.? No explanation needed (although he has been on his best behavior). Ditto Chris Henry. Brandon Marshall slips on a McDonald’s wrapper, chops off his arm and steve smith is making that first round pick the birds got from the panthers better each day by rearranging his teammates face. It’s a mystery to me why so many wideouts are so damn crazy. Maybe they crave attention, maybe they are jealous of the quarterback, maybe it takes someone with a few screws loose to run across the middle and mess with this crazy bastard.
3)Football’s offseason is brutal.
I count my lucky stars the phils were entertaining because the time in between the draft and camp is interminably long. Can you imagine what the people in Kansas City, Seattle or any other cellar dwelling town must feel? Jesus the suicide rate must be sky high. Now that we are in the thick of camp and the preseason is starting this weekend we can all breathe easily, football is back.
Here are five predictions I randomly pulled out of my ass for the Eagles this season.
1)Donovan McNabb will finish the season healthy.
McNabb will be playing behind a healthy line (physically) for the first time in awhile. The depth will help as well as Gilles and to a lesser extent Dunlap have shown to be capable back ups-in camp. How it all changes when shit gets real as they say in bad boys 2 is yet to be seen. That coupled with the duh move of giving the ball to Westbrook on the ground should mean McNabb is healthy-and back for 2009.
2)The three CB package will be on the field alot more than people think.
Whether or not he knows it Sheldon Brown will be playing safety. Asante and Lito matched up on the outside with Sheldon playing in zone, or in man against the slot receiver (but also coming up to play the run) will be a pretty effective package against teams that have high octane passing attacks like oh I don’t know, every team in the division? As a 2A Leeetoh will miss games. That’s “just what He do.”
3)The Eagles will not win the division but will secure a wild card berth.
This depends on the play of the defense. I think expectations are really high for this squad. A fully healthy and healed Weapon X should really help an already stalwart secondary. Couple that with pro bowl quality play up front from Patterson and Cole along with a rotation featuring so called “fastballs” Klecko and Laws could equate to a lot more turnovers. The question for me still lies in the LB’s. If Gocong and Bradley develop according to plan (word out of Lehigh is that Bradley is a player) all things D could be pretty damn good.
4) They will win a road playoff game.
I just got a feeling, I dunno maybe I have it every year and maybe I want it so bad, but I think this team has a chance to do some damage in the NFC.
5) At least one return touchdown this year.
Being in the Bay Area I’ve heard alot of things about DeSean Jackson. Attitude problems, small in big games, too small in general. But one thing I’ve heard over and over is that he’s a sick punt returner. I suggest watching highlights from the oregon game last year. As an added bonus they got this dude Booker. If nothing else he should be returning kicks (something he did at FSU pretty well) on opening day. If the hype from Lehigh is to be believed the kid also has speed to spare and some pretty crazy moves so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the offense in some capacity.
So there ya go, its football season! Be happy, drink beer, fire up the grill, I’ll see you all 9/21 Eagles Vs Steelers.
I’m so happy I could cry
